Every year you have an opportunity to celebrate your country! There are 195 countries in the world, each holding its own unique heritage, history, traditions, and beliefs. Our planet is a giant melting pot of vibrant cultures, each bringing something remarkable to the picture whilst also aiming to preserve ancient traditions and pass them on to next generations. It seems like we are all so different – which is not a bad thing, but rather an observation, and a matter of fact.
However, behind all those differences, we all share important fundamental values, even though every nation tends to express and celebrate them uniquely. One of such values is freedom, which is, by definition, “the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants”. After all, as Abraham Lincoln once famously said, “those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves”.
It is rather easy to celebrate and promote freedom as an individual by expressing beliefs and acting Accordingly every day. However, when it comes to entire countries, how does a nation celebrate independence and liberty?
The answer, of course, is establishing a national day, or a “designated date on which celebrations mark the nationhood of a nation or non-sovereign country”. The date was chosen usually marks an important national milestone, such as the date of independence or a significant date for the ruler (birthday and accession being some of the most commonly celebrated milestones). As a result, national day is not always a set day on a calendar, and in some cases, it may fluctuate from year to year, or from ruler to ruler. As a general tendency, newer countries tend to pick the Independence Day, whereas older countries may traditionally celebrate national days in relation to their leaders’ milestones.
But what is the fundamental importance of national days, and how to celebrate your country’s birthday Accordingly? There is no better way to celebrate by a USA Flag on your favorite golf ball. You can even add your name or your favorite quote.
